Welcoming and working with the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry

On the morning of November 29, the delegation of the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI) led by Mr. Dau Anh Tuan, Deputy General Secretary cum Head of the Legal Department, VCCI worked with the People's Committee of Tra Vinh province to survey on the situation and strategy of economic development associated with environmental protection of the province. Working with the delegation were Mr. Hong Ngoc Hung, Deputy Director of the Department of Planning and Investment, and representatives of relevant provincial departments and agencies.

Mr. Dau Anh Tuan, Deputy Secretary General and Head of the Legal Department, VCCI spoke at the meeting.

Speaking at the meeting, Mr. Dau Anh Tuan said that VCCI is currently piloting the development and publication of the Provincial Green Index (PGI), which is integrated into the Provincial Competitiveness Index (PCI) survey from 2022. The construction of this index aims to contribute to realizing the orientations of the Party and the country, and to encouraging provinces and cities in Vietnam to pay more attention to economic development associated with environment protection.

The Green Index will provide information for the national agencies, including ministries, branches in provinces and cities, to use for administration and management. Besides, investors can refer to the data in their investment decisions and business expansion. It is a policy tool to promote the improvement of the investment environment in a greener direction in localities, thereby promoting the process of sustainable development in Vietnam.

At the meeting, leaders of provincial departments and branches exchanged and clarified issues of concern to the delegation, such as the position and role of economic development in association with environmental protection in the development strategy socio-economic development of the province; policies and plans on economic development associated with environmental protection; initiatives, point models on economic development associated with environmental protection.

Tra Vinh province has always determined that socio-economic development must be associated with environmental protection because these are important pillars for sustainable and long-term development. The determination is shown in the Resolution of the 11th Party Congress of Tra Vinh Province, term of 2020-2025, and the Strategy for Environmental Protection of Tra Vinh in 2020, with a vision to 2030. Accordingly, the "Strategy to environmental protection is an integral part of the socio-economic development strategy, and towards the goal of sustainable development, ensuring harmony between exploitation and sustainable use of natural resources, maintaining ecological balance."

In 2020, Tra Vinh is one of five provinces (including Tra Vinh, Ba Ria - Vung Tau, Binh Duong, Da Nang, and Quang Ninh) approved by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment for the implementation results of the Set of Indicators to evaluate the results of environment protection of the provinces and centrally-run cities (the index of the percentage of urban wastewater collected and treated meeting environmental standards, the rate of treated hazardous wastes meeting environment requirements, the rate of households are allowed to use hygienic water sources, etc., which are assessed as good results.

Besides, according to the assessment of the technology level and production technology capacity of enterprises, industries/fields in Tra Vinh province in 2020 by the Institute of Scientific Evaluation and Technology Valuation - Ministry of Science and Technology Analytical technology, 90% of enterprises apply clean technology, there is one high-tech enterprise (My Lan Joint Stock Company), about 20% of enterprises use medium-advanced technology, and most of which are average.

On this occasion, the delegation of VCCI will visit and survey My Lan Joint Stock Company and Viet Tran Company Limited.
